What they are and how they work

Solar batteries are not essential, but they are a great element in a photovoltaic installation. Batteries increase savings on electricity bills, since they store the energy produced, so that it can be used during the night or in long periods of time when there is no solar radiation.

The energy can be self-consumed instead of being fed into the grid, which leads to a lower consumption of energy from the grid and, consequently, a very important potential saving in economic terms, even more so in the current electricity market. It also allows us to have greater security of supply and increase our level of energy self-sufficiency.

There are three main reasons why consumers decide to switch to self-consumption:

  • Economic savings.
  • Energy self-sufficiency.
  • Environmental responsibility.

Savings also determine the profitability and return on investment of a self-consumption system.

Bettergy and the REACH Project

Bettergy’s growth strategy in the area of clean technologies is to innovate in the development of software solutions. Our firm commitment to innovation and technological development has led us to participate in a multitude of R&D programs and calls for proposals, receiving various awards and recognitions for the excellence and innovative nature of our projects.

In relation to energy storage, it is worth mentioning the project developed in the European incubator REACH. In this acceleration program, Bettergy reached the final experimental phase thanks to the Digital Solar Storage (hereinafter DSS) project.

This new project follows the line of research that Bettergy has been developing around the digitization of solar photovoltaic self-consumption projects. It is an increase of value on the project proposal that we are developing with the help of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade and European Union funds [1], aimed at customers and solar investors looking for monitoring tools to maximize security and minimize maintenance costs. With the inclusion of a storage unit, in addition to secure management we can achieve greater profitability of the installation.

DSS is an experimental development project that aims to develop advanced technological solutions to optimize energy assets. It includes three main services:

  1. A project sizing service that generates technically qualified offers optimized according to the customer’s economic and environmental objectives.
  2. An operation service that determines on a daily basis which operational sequence maximizes the performance of the facility’s energy assets. This operation takes into account all the factors that have an impact on the electricity bill (price arbitrage, participation in demand response programs, minimization of power adjustment penalties, etc.).
  3. A monitoring and maintenance service that provides clear and traceable information on energy assets to users, as well as predictive and corrective maintenance tasks.

These three services will be supported by core services that make use of big data technologies, artificial intelligence techniques and machine learning to establish the optimal charging and discharging of the energy storage system.

PV + Storage Technology Solutions

The company’s business strategy is focused on the EnergySequence energy efficiency platform, which allows us to digitalize energy efficiency processes by analyzing energy saving opportunities, optimizing project sizing in economic and environmental terms, and managing energy assets by monitoring operation and maintenance.

We offer technological solutions from a triple perspective: sizing, operating and monitoring solar self-consumption facilities with energy storage systems. Our solutions support energy projects for both an individual consumer and a group of consumers, and of any type, whether residential, SME or industrial.
