PPA Contract: Photovoltaic Self-consumption

At Bettergy we are specialists in energy efficiency and renewables.

In recent years we have audited more than 3,000 installations throughout Spain following the RD 56/2016 for large companies.

Among our clients we have important companies such as Heidelberg Group, Acotral, Fujitsu, Matsa, Unicaja, Uvesa, Endesa, Ubago, Bidafarma, Seniors Residencias, Ferrovial, Gestagua or Mayoral among others.

In 2020 we have carried out with great success the renewal of these audits of large companies throughout Spain.

As an alternative to this audit every 4 years, there is also the possibility of implementing an ISO 50.001 type Energy Management System, which offers great advantages once the audit has been carried out.

As established by the standard, we have been proposing measures to improve the energy management of these companies and on many occasions our advisors have offered the possibility of signing long-term renewable energy purchase contracts as the most interesting option to achieve energy savings and efficiency objectives.

Faced with such an uncertain situation regarding the evolution of electricity market prices, PPAs are a tool for risk management that can be a source of savings while allowing large consumers to carry out a commitment to corporate social responsibility.

In fact, with the help of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade and European Union funds, we are immersed in a project to research and design more secure and reliable solutions for the management of PPAs [1], in order to increase participation in renewable projects.

At Bettergy, we have been developing these projects since 2018, and we believe it can be an interesting opportunity for you.

The energy generated is consumed by the customer under pre-established conditions:

  • The customer does not have to make any initial contribution for the investment of the photovoltaic plant.
  • The customer does not take any risk; he only commits to consume the generated photovoltaic energy for a certain period of time.
  • Supply of 100% clean energy at a fixed price,
  • Supply guarantee for the duration of the PPA contract (between 8 and 15 years).

At the end of the PPA contract, the photovoltaic plant becomes the property of the customer, i.e.:

  • The PV plant is received by the customer at no additional cost.
  • From this moment on, the energy generated by the PV plant is free of charge.
  • The customer can purchase the plant before the end of the PPA at a price agreed in the PPA contract.
